Korean Skincare for Dry, Sensitive Skin

Dry, sensitive skin improves by subtraction. The fix is a short routine of four steps, free of fragrance and essential oils, held long enough for the barrier to settle, and only then adding anything active. Layer humectants on damp skin and seal them with a barrier-focused moisturizer, because in this skin type a hydrating layer without a seal often leaves skin tighter than before. If something stings every time you use it, that is not adjustment, it is a signal to stop. Expect comfort in about two weeks and real change closer to eight.

How to know this is you

  • Tight after cleansing, sometimes before you have even dried your face.
  • Flaking, and redness that lingers rather than settling.
  • Products that others find gentle can sting.
  • Skin reacts to weather, heating, and air conditioning quickly.

Change these two things

  1. Remove fragrance and essential oils from the entire routine.
  2. Always seal humectants with a moisturizer. Never leave a hydrating layer uncovered.

Watch out

The instinct to add a soothing serum on top of an already long routine usually backfires. Every extra product is another thing to react to. Take one away before you add one.

Keep going

This routine looks too simple to work, which is why people abandon it in week two. Hold it for a month before judging it.

Questions

Is my skin sensitive or just a damaged barrier?

Often the barrier. Over-cleansing, over-exfoliating, and too many actives can make ordinary skin behave as though it is sensitive. Strip back and see whether the reactivity fades.

Can dry sensitive skin use retinol?

Sometimes, but only once nothing stings, starting once a week and buffered with moisturizer. If it stings every time, it is not the right active for you right now.

Why does my hydrating toner make my skin feel tighter?

A humectant needs water to hold and a seal to hold it. Apply to damp skin and follow immediately with a moisturizer, especially in dry or heated air.
